They aim to give an introduction to the algebro-geometric side of the theory, with an emphasis on its global aspects. The focus is on concrete examples and applications. The lectures take into account a number of recent perspectives, including adjoint ideals and the resulting simplifications in Siu's theorem on plurigenera in the general type case. In particular, the first three made clear the importance of adjoint ideals as a tool in proving extension theorems; these were not so clearly in focus at the time [21] was written. I have taken this new viewpoint into account in discussing the restriction theorem in Lecture 3. Adjoint ideals also open the door to an extremely transparent presentation of Siu’s theorem on deformation-invariance of plurigenera of varieties of general type, which appears in Lecture 5.
