なお、下記wikipediaの「幾何オブジェクトのプロパティを基本群のプロパティに減らすことである」は
英文「whose main theme is to reduce properties of geometric objects to properties of their fundamental groups」
の誤訳ですね（”reduce”→「減らす」）
