Biography
He took part as a volunteer in the First World War and died in Subida, in 1917, in a desperate attempt to stop the enemy advance after the defeat of Caporetto . Francesco Tricomi said that he ≪can be considered one of the greatest Italian mathematicians≫ [1] and many agree in believing his premature death - and a similar fate awaited many other young Italian mathematicians, including Ruggiero Torelli and Luciano Orlando - such as greatest tribute paid by Italian mathematics to the great war .
