Two steps:
1. disable the vnc server automatic start on the raspi-config
2. add this line to the pi user crontab:

@reboot /usr/bin/sudo /bin/su - pi -c '/usr/bin/vncserver -geometry 1920x1080 -depth 24'
3. reboot and login with vnc using <IP>:1
4. start kodi like before (or automate the start)
5. Enjoy kodi and vnc access to the desktop
