僕の場合、売買春やクスリのフィールドワークをする際にヤクザにケツ持ちしてもらってきました。
お蔭でこの方面でたくさんの著作をものすることができました。
女の子がストーカーにつきまとわれて困っているというようなときも、
警察に頼んだら（ストーカー規制法成立以前だったので）半年以上もかかるところを
彼らが三時間で解決してくれることもありました。
僕の研究に役立つ情報をたくさんくれたりもしました。
でも、どれも結果にすぎません。

スペンサー＝ブラウンと四色問題
G. Spencer-Brown（ジョージ・スペンサー＝ブラウン）は、『Laws of Form（形式の法則）』で知られる思想家・数学者ですが、
1976年、Nature誌の編集者宛ての手紙の中で「四色定理をコンピュータを使わずに証明した」と主張しました。
しかし結論から言うと数学的に受け入れられる証明は示されていません。
スペンサー＝ブラウンの議論は
・論理の飛躍が多い
・厳密な定義・補題・検証が欠けている
査読に耐える形で体系化されていない
そのため数学界で支持者（擁護者）は現れず正式な論文としても成立していません。「何もできていなかった」という評価は、数学界のコンセンサスにかなり近い表現です。
