It's one thing to talk about the "good old pre-FIRE Legacy," but in a game where the card pool is constantly expanding, it's impossible to treat old cards as sacred cows.
Sensei's Divining Top and Gitaxian Probe were treated as sacred for a long time before they were finally banned.
Are we going to protect Brainstorm for the next 20 or 30 years and continue to ban its stand-ins?
Defensive cards like Force of Will, Daze, Wasteland, and Thoughtseize shouldn't be banned. Brainstorm, a card restricted in Vintage, is as broken as Ancestral Recall and should be banned immediately.
The current scapegoat bans for Brainstorm are Dreadhorde Arcanist, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Expressive Iteration, and Psychic Frog. This list will only continue to grow.
Will the next scapegoat be Tamiyo? Whether it's in November or not, it feels like it will be gone within three years.
They should just ban Brainstorm quickly, like they did with Sensei's Divining Top and Gitaxian Probe.
Also, some people say, "You can't weaken Blue because it keeps combo decks in check!" But I'm arguing that Force of Will and Daze should not be banned. The winning decks, like UB Reanimator, Show and Tell, and Nadu, are all Brainstorm-fueled combo decks.
The problem is that both the Clock-Permission side and the combo side ultimately become Brainstorm decks.
Those who oppose banning Brainstorm can only make the delusional excuse that "the format will get worse if it's banned!" But banning Brainstorm will definitely make the format better, as has been proven in formats like Historic.
