75: (ワッチョイ 23ac-5h5M [61.214.164.39]) [] 2021/08/21(土) 18:18:59 ID:mMqFgAEj0 If you’re not familiar with the name Marina Fujiwara, now is a good time for a virtual “How do you do?” The 28-year-old is an inventor and YouTuber with a total of over 400,000 followers on various social media platforms, many of them based overseas. “I’ve noticed that Western people are good at paying compliments,” says the inventor. “They come out with these wonderful words of praise but I don’t know how to respond. Maybe inventing a machine that would emit clever, witty rejoinders for when one is being showered with compliments in English would be good.” As this comment shows, Fujiwara has a vital interest in the English language. “I was never an ace student but I always liked English. When I was a child, my father went on business trips to the U.S. and often he would take me along. On these trips, I became enthralled by how people communicated with each other. Total strangers would come up to me and say, ‘Wow, that’s a nice dress!’ I thought how fun it would be if this style of communication became the norm in Japan.” Two years ago, Fujiwara decided that English learning would be part of her morning routine. When she’s not too tired after a day’s work, she gets in some extra studying time before bed, too. “My go-to method is dipping into a book called English Grammar in Use. It’s all in English but very comprehensive. A Japanese textbook of English didn’t work for me. Neither did English classes at school. I needed to immerse myself fully in the experience.” Fujiwara says her reading and comprehension skills shot up with the help of this book. http://medaka.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/basket/1629117159/75
