Odlyzko, Andrew, Correspondence about the origins of the Hilbert–Polya Conjecture.

これ読むと、Polyaへ1981年に手紙を書いたという。
”Mathematical folk wisdom has usually attributed its formulation to Hilbert and Polya, independently, some time in the 1910s.”
”However, there appears to be no published mention of it before Hugh Montgomery's 1973 paper on the pair correlation of zeros of the zeta function.”
なので、1981年には存命だったPolyaに尋ねた。時にPolyaは”written when he was 94. ”だと。あとは上記URLを読んでください。
なお、ダフィット・ヒルベルト（David Hilbert, 1862年1月23日 - 1943年2月14日）は、亡くなっていたので、知っていそうなOlga Taussky-Todd女史にも手紙を書いている。

熱心に、Hilbert–Pólya conjectureのオリジナリティーを追求している、西洋人らしく。
