Japan discriminates
For once, Japan had tried to become imperialistic, except that I didn’t go on the other side of the world to get colonies, but used fellow Asian countries to do so.
By “fellow Asian countries” I mean China and Korea,
etc… Japan used mainly United States and Great Britain as the model, because it wanted to become as strong of a nation as those two.

So now we get to the point of ‘but Japan was pushed to Imperialism by these big bad Western countries’.
True, Japan wanted to get there to get rid of the unequal treaties imposed on it since Meiji Restoration,
plus it also wanted to become a strong nation in order to avoid becoming a colony itself. At the time, the solution was to modernize like crazy,
but in order to modernize Japan needed raw resources, and the solution to this particular problem was to get colonies. Hence China and Korea.

But the point of this post is not to give a history lesson about Japanese reasons for modernization,
